Saying Goodbye ….oh Good and Faithful Servant

One and one half months shy of twenty-five years on the job with Big Brothers Big Sisters we said farewell to Joyce Mullally this past week. Joyce was for most staff our most favorite person as she was our bookkeeper……the one who does our payroll…get it?

Joyce took great pride in what she did for the organization as she knew the work she has done over the years has contributed to the fine works of our organization. The entire staff gathered together along with invited quests to wish Joyce well in her retirement.

S.O.A.R. @ The ROM

Thanks to the generosity of the Tim Horton Children’s Foundation a trip to the Royal Ontario Museum. For many of us attending it was our first experience at this great facility. Interesting, interactive and a whole lot of fun for all ages best describes our day.

Busted

That’s right…..we’re standing in front of Police Central in the company of a few of Hamilton’s finest who wanted to spent the day with us. Thanks to their generosity we spent a day at the Ontario Science Center. The highlight for many was the presentation of Tornado Alley.

Is your Little looking for Volunteer Hours?

The Hamilton Conservation Authority is seeking volunteer assistance at the Christie Lake Antique Shows. Big and their Little’s can spend a few hours in the outdoors by assisting in the food services area by sorting trash to appropriate recycling containers. Giving back to the community is a valuable lesson for our Little’s and here is a wonderful opportunity. There are two dates for this event and if interested, please call 905- 525-2181 extensions 142 for Sofia or 140 for Ashley and please mention you are with Big Brothers Big Sisters.

Saturday Sept 8th 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM

About the Show: Canada's favourite Antique Show with over 300 dealers and almost 10 acres of antiques. A Big Thank You to Canadian Tire Jump Start

A Big Thank You to Canadian Tire Jump Start for their support of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Hamilton and Burlington. Their support allowed fifty seven of our Little Brothers and Little Sisters to register and engage in a sport or recreational activity that they enjoy. Sport and Recreation is not always readily available to youth who come from single parent households or homes where there may be under employment or unemployment but thanks to Canadian Tire Jump Start it is no longer out of reach.

Any Big Brothers, Big Sisters who have a Little who is interested in an sport or recreational activity we encourage you to contact your case manager to see how they can access the Jump Start program. A short registration form must be completed with the name , address and phone number of the organization that is offering the activity, the cost of registration and number of hours and weeks or months that the activity will take place. In some cases, equipment costs can also be covered as part of the application, but please note that Jump Start funding may not cover all related costs depending on the sport and overall costs associated with it.

Jump Start does not cover the costs of elite sports that are typically at a higher cost as they do try to provide resources to as many children as they can. An example of an elite sport would be “competitive swimming”

We are now taking applications for any clients of our agency up until June 15th.
